Bon's Flaky Danish Pastry
Ingredients
Danish Pastry: 8 cups sifted flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
2 cups lukewarm milk
6 Tbs melted butter or margarine
2 packages dry yeast
3 eggs, well beaten
Jar(s) of favorite Jelly
Powdered Sugar Frosting: 1 cup Powdered Sugar
2 Tbs Water
1/2 tsp Vanilla
Make as a stiff paste, heat for 30-45
seconds until smooth in the microwave. Drizzle over
the pastry or brush on with pastry brush after they
are baked.
Directions: (Have 3/4 pound of butter or margarine
soft.) Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk; add sugar, salt, butter
and eggs. Add flour, enough to make a dough which can be handled.
Turn out on floured board and knead until smooth (5 minutes).
Roll into rectangular shape twice as long as wide.
Cover 2/3 of dough with dabs
of softened butter, using 1/4 pound. Fold the un-buttered pat
of the dough over half of the buttered dough, then fold other
1/3rd over and press edges down well. Repeat twice more until
you use up the rest of the butter.
Cover dough with towel and let
stand for 1/2 hour. Roll out to 1/2" thick, cut in strips
and form into rolls; put a spoonful of jelly in center of each
roll. Let rise to double their size.
Bake at 375° F for 15 to
25 minutes, depending on the size of the roll. Rolls will be
a light golden color when done. When cool, frost with a pastry
brush with powdered sugar frosting or drizzle to taste.
